Fair Life, For Now

Fair Life, For Now is an ongoing project about county fairs in the state of Pennsylvania. The approach is observational with the curiosity of the outsider with the goal in bringing out the vibe of this peculiar enclave where people from different facades of society congregate in order to break free from the monotony of everyday obligations and responsibilities. They come in waves in order to share that which unites them, the demolition derby, the local pizza and tunes, regardless of one’s personal story, ethnic background and political affiliations. For me, it is a cathartic experience but also some sort of an academic course that explores one of the myriad traditions ingrained within the American stage. With these photographs I aim to decipher the different nuances which exist in this almost theatrical field; most importantly they are about the experience of being there simultaneously in the periphery observing the play as it unfolds, but also part of the “performing” cast.
